President and Chief Executive Officer

Shelley BabinShelley is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Atura Power. A strategic and visionary leader, she heads a dedicated team of about 160 employees in the safe and reliable operation of Ontario's largest fleet of combined cycle natural gas turbine powerplants, and the development of low-carbon hydrogen production and battery energy storage centres.

Prior to her appointment at Atura Power, Shelley was Ontario Power Generation's (OPG) Chief Legal and Ethics Officer, and led the company's Environment, Social and Governance work. In 2021, under her leadership, OPG's Law Division was named the Energy and Resources Law Department of the Year by the Canadian Law Awards, and Shelley was awarded Tomorrow's Leader by the Canadian General Counsel Awards in 2018. She practised commercial litigation at a large national Bay Street law firm prior to joining OPG.

Shelley earned an LLB from the University of Windsor and a BBA at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Shelley holds her ICD.D designation and sits on the board of Global First Power, a joint venture between OPG and Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation with a mandate to construct and operate a small modular nuclear reactor in Ontario. While practicing law, Shelley was an active volunteer at the Pro Bono Ontario Free Legal Advice Hotline and a member of the Lawyers for Possibility Fundraising Cabinet for the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

During her personal time, Shelley enjoys spending time with her husband and two children on the lake and ski hill.

Vice President of Major Projects

Paul BAs Vice President of Major Projects, Paul is responsible for developing Atura Power's new electricity generation and storage projects.

His 29 years of international experience in the power generation industry includes engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, equipment integrity and project management.

Paul graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering and Management degree from McMaster University and is a Professional Engineer licensed in Ontario.

Vice President of Operations

Neil FinnertyNeil Finnerty is responsible for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of Atura Power's fleet of combined cycle natural gas power plants.

Previously, he was the plant manager at Atura Power's Brighton Beach and Halton Hills Generating Stations. Neil also worked in Northern Ontario in the power generation and mining industries.

Neil is a certified First-Class Power Engineer and earned a Bachelor Science degree from Carleton University.

Vice President of Hydrogen Business, Stakeholder & Indigenous Relations

Kelly is responsible for the business and project development and execution for Atura Power's hydrogen business in addition to the company's stakeholder and Indigenous relations.

Kelly has more than 17 years of direct experience in advanced water treatment technologies and clean energy solutions.

Prior to joining Atura Power, Kelly was a member of the Seven Seas Water Senior Leadership Team, where she oversaw business development and managed mergers and acquisitions. Kelly also worked as a field engineer for GE Power & Water and Zenon Environmental.

Kelly is a licensed Professional Engineer in the province of Nova Scotia and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science - Chemical Engineering degree from Queen's University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management.

General Counsel

David Houghton headshotAs General Counsel and a member of the Senior Leadership Team, David provides strategic legal advice to Atura Power's management on all aspects of the company's business and directs Atura Power's legal team in achieving its strategic and business plan objectives.

David joined Atura Power in April 2023 from Siemens Canada, where he spent more than 10 years providing legal services to diverse and complex product, service, software and project businesses in the energy, industrial and healthcare fields.

David completed his Juris Doctor (JD) in common law at the University of Ottawa before articling at Gowling WLG.

Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his wife and two children in various travel, sports, music, and leisure activities.

Director of Asset Management

Kyle Johnstone

As Director of Asset Management, Kyle is responsible for strategic and cost-effective engineering, project execution, and environmental, health and safety support for Atura Power's fleet of combined cycle power plants.

He has spent his career in the energy and power generation industries with experience in engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, and project management.

Kyle graduated with a BASc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and is a Professional Engineer licensed in Ontario.

In his free time Kyle enjoys traveling and hiking with his wife and their two children.

Head of Human Resources

Nirav Patel headshotNirav works closely with Atura Power's leadership team to develop and execute the people strategy as the company enters a period of significant growth. He also oversees the HR, benefits, labour relations and communications functions.

A proven specialist in HR, Nirav held various leadership roles at Ontario Power Generation and prides himself in building relationships with others and values coaching and listening to create inclusive and respectful workplace practices.

Nirav has an undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Human Resources Management from York University in addition to being a Certified Human Resources Leader. Nirav is also Vice Chair of Electricity HR Canada, a non-profit organization that aims to support the industry with their HR challenges.

Nirav is an active supporter of the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation having done the Ride to Conquer Cancer for five years and has taken on leadership roles to support the White Ribbon campaign.

Outside of work, you will find Nirav riding his bicycle all over Toronto, or spending time with his two children laughing and joking to pranks and nonsense.

Vice President of Energy Markets & Electricity Growth

Tom PattersonTom is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario with more than 20 years of experience in the energy industry.

His responsibilities at Atura Power include overseeing commercial operations, contract management and market affairs, in addition to growing the electricity generation and storage businesses.

Prior to joining Atura Power, Tom worked at TC Energy in several areas, including commercial asset management, thermal and renewable generation business development, and project engineering.

Vice President of Finance & Corporate Services

Jay ScrinkoJay is an experienced finance leader with a 30-year career focused on utilities and power generation. Skilled in people leadership and financial management with specialized experience in system implementations with process improvement and corporate acquisitions, Jay is a strong accounting professional designated by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.

He joined Atura Power from ENMAX in Calgary where he was Vice President, Finance & Chief Controller. Prior to ENMAX, Jay held various positions at Ontario Power Generation culminating in the role of Vice President, Hydro-Thermal Finance.
