President and Chief Executive Officer

Tom Patterson headshotAs President and Chief Executive Officer, Tom leads a dedicated team that safely and efficiency operates Ontario's largest fleet of combined cycle gas turbine powerplants that generate the reliable electricity we need, when we need it. He also oversees an ambitious growth plan that will expand our gas generation capacity, and develop low-carbon hydrogen production, energy storage and renewable generation facilities to help build a cleaner energy future.

A mechanical engineer, Tom started his career at TC Energy before his transition to Atura Power, and previously led the Energy Markets, Electricity Growth, Finance and Corporate Services teams. With more than more than 25 years of successful North American energy sector experience, Tom’s ability to build relationships, combined with his deep energy sector knowledge, ensures Atura Power’s continued success.

Tom is married and a proud father of two children, and enjoys live theatre, classical music and socializing with friends and colleagues when not working.

Vice President of Major Projects

As Vice President of Major Projects, Paul is responsible for developing Atura Power's new electricity generation and storage projects.

His 29 years of international experience in the power generation industry includes engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, equipment integrity and project management.

Paul graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering and Management degree from McMaster University and is a Professional Engineer licensed in Ontario.

Vice President of Operations

Neil Finnerty headshotNeil Finnerty is responsible for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of Atura Power's fleet of combined cycle natural gas power plants.

Previously, he was the plant manager at Atura Power's Brighton Beach and Halton Hills Generating Stations. Neil also worked in Northern Ontario in the power generation and mining industries.

Neil is a certified First-Class Power Engineer and earned a Bachelor Science degree from Carleton University.

Vice President of Energy Markets and Growth

Kelly leads the Energy Markets and commercial operations teams in addition to our electricity and clean fuels business development efforts.

Prior to joining Atura Power, Kelly was a member of the Seven Seas Water senior leadership team, where she oversaw business development and managed mergers and acquisitions. Kelly also worked as a field engineer for GE Power & Water and Zenon Environmental.

Kelly is a licensed Professional Engineer in the province of Nova Scotia and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science - Chemical Engineering degree from Queen's University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management.

General Counsel and Director of Corporate Affairs

David provides strategic legal advice to Atura Power's management on all aspects of the company's business with additional accountability for stakeholder and Indigenous relations, real estate, and board governance.

David joined Atura Power from Siemens Canada in 2023, where he spent more than 10 years providing legal services to diverse and complex product, service, software and project businesses in the energy, industrial and healthcare fields.

David completed his Juris Doctor in common law at the University of Ottawa before articling at Gowling WLG.

Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his wife and two children in various travel, sports, music, and leisure activities.

Director of Asset Management

As Director of Asset Management, John McCaig oversees Atura Power’s asset management, engineering, project management, environment, health, and safety teams.

John brings a wealth of experience from his long tenure at Ontario Power Generation (OPG), where he developed a strong background in engineering, operations and various support functions, working in thermal, hydro and nuclear power generation.

His career began at the Nanticoke Generating Station in 2001, where he supported operations, maintenance, and engineering. In 2012, John transitioned to the nuclear sector, managing electrical maintenance at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. Following this, in 2015, he supported OPG’s Inspection and Maintenance Team, overseeing a series of complex reactor maintenance projects. In 2019, he moved to OPG’s Renewable Generation team, managing hydroelectric stations.

John holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario. Outside of work, he enjoys cycling, travelling and spending time with his wife and three daughters.

Head of Human Resources

Nirav works closely with Atura Power's leadership team to develop and execute the people strategy as the company enters a period of significant growth. He also oversees the HR, benefits, labour relations and communications functions.

A proven specialist in HR, Nirav held various leadership roles at Ontario Power Generation and prides himself in building relationships with others and values coaching and listening to create inclusive and respectful workplace practices.

Nirav has an undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Human Resources Management from York University in addition to being a Certified Human Resources Leader. Nirav is also Vice Chair of Electricity HR Canada, a non-profit organization that aims to support the industry with their HR challenges.

Nirav is an active supporter of the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation having done the Ride to Conquer Cancer for five years and has taken on leadership roles to support the White Ribbon campaign.

Outside of work, you will find Nirav riding his bicycle all over Toronto, or spending time with his two children laughing and joking to pranks and nonsense.
